Official: IT-giants mull ways to bypass law on working in Russia
MOSCOW, Oct 19 (PRIME) -- International IT-giants are now holding consultations to find technical and legal ways to bypass the law that obliges them to open full-scale offices in Russia on January 1, 2022, Andrei Klimov, head of the state sovereignty committee of the Russian parliament’s upper house Federation Council, told reporters on Tuesday.
“The digital giants should ‘land’ in Russia starting from January 1. According to our information, these companies are holding internal consultations on how they could bypass the Russian law in technical and legal ways,” he said.
The commission knows about these intentions, and the government will see it as violation of the law if the companies do not comply with it until the end of the year, he added.
The parliament earlier approved the bill obliging the foreign IT giants with a daily audience of more than 500,000 Russian users to open offices in the country from 2022.
